The Taste of Louisiana Festival BBQ Rib Cook-Off ( Postponed until The Taste of Louisiana Festival 2013)
What would Memorial Weekend be without Barbeque? Do you make the best BBQ Ribs in Louisiana? If you think you have what it takes to win the title of “Best BBQ Ribs in Louisiana” … well here’s your chance!
25 teams will compete for the “Best BBQ Pork Ribs”
Contestants are allowed to use any type of pork ribs they wish; Baby Back Ribs, Spare Ribs, Rib tips…etc.
Contestants will be judged on Flavor and texture!!! What else is there? Pretty simple…
The 1st place team will win $500.00 and other special prizes, 2nd and 3rd place winners will receive special prizes.
All decisions of the The Taste of Louisiana Festival Cook –Off Committee are final.
Each team shall consist of a Chief Cook and up to 5 team members. Each team shall check in with the Director of the Competition Committee by 9 a.m. the morning of the event. Each team’s $75.00 entry fee shall allow 5 team members to attend the event. Any other team members must purchase a ticket to attend.
Each team will be assigned a cooking space. Pits, cookers, props, trailers, motor homes, vehicles, tents or any other equipment (including generators) shall not exceed the boundaries of the team’s assigned cooking space. All seasoning and cooking of product shall be done within the assigned cooking space. Teams shall not share an assigned cooking space or cooking device.
Contestants shall provide all needed equipment, supplies and electricity, except as arranged for in advance. Contestants must adhere to all electrical, fire and other codes. A fire extinguisher shall be near all cooking devices.
Entries will be submitted in an approved numbered container, provided by The Taste of Louisiana Festival, LLC .The number must be on top of the container at turn-in. The container shall not be marked in anyway so as to make the container unique or identifiable. Aluminum foil, toothpicks, skewers, foreign material, and/or stuffing are prohibited in the container. Marked entries will be disqualified.
Each contestant must submit three (5) portions of their finished dish to the judges for judging.
Turn-in times will be announced prior to the event. An entry will be judged only at the time established by the contest organizer. The allowable turn-in time will be five (5) minutes before to five (5) minutes after the posted time with no tolerance.
It is the responsibility of the contestant to see that the team’s assigned cooking space is clean and orderly following the contest. All fires must be put out and all equipment removed from site. It is imperative that clean-up be thorough. Any team’s assigned cooking space left in disarray or with loose trash, other than at trash containers, may disqualify the team.
